Better Eyesight

Whatever is-is Best

I know, as my life grows older,
and mine eyes have clearer sight,
that under each rank wrong somewhere
there lies the root of Right;
that each sorrow has its purpose,
by the sorrowing oft unguessed;
but as sure as the sun brings morning,
whatever is-is best.

I know that each sinful action,
as sure as the night brings shade,
is somewhere, sometime punished,
tho' the hour be long delayed.
I know that the soul is aided
sometimes by the heart's unrest,
and to grow means often to suffer-
but whatever is-is best.

I know there are no errors,
in the great Eternal plan,
and all things work together
for the final good of man.
And I know when my soul speeds onward,
in its grand Eternal quest,
I shall say as I look back earthward,
whatever is-is best.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

I came across this poem at just the right time. I've been reading through the book of Habakkuk-a book that never fails to refocus me on what is truly important. I may not understand the circumstances or situations I face in this life, but all is well. Whatever is-is best!

What a blessing to be able to see things that way. I usually go kicking and screaming.

What a lovely poem. That is why I so enjoy your sheep cartoons. The analogy is so apt and fitting. We are all as blind sheep, but as believers, we have an advantage in that our Shepherd will deliver us from eternal death.

Sometimes the very reason I resist reading my Bible is because I know I will not be comfortable being sorry for myself , and in fact will need to acknowledge God is in control and I am sinning in my worry and fear. But then He does gently take me back to Him and comforts me and renews my joy and faith. Isn't He Wonderful?

Very meaningful poem. It isn't always easy to accept this truth, but we should.
